Registration for Overseas Visitors

Under Section 26(1)(f) of the Immigration Act 1971, visitors from certain other countries are required to register with the police if they are Over 16 years of age and intend to work or study in the U.K.

People from the list of countries on the below list are required to register.

Argentina

Armenia

Azerbaijan

Bahrain

Bolivia

Brazil

Colombia

Cuba

Egypt

Georgia

Iran

Iraq

Israel

Jordan

Kazakhstan

Krygyzstan

Kuwait

Turkey

Turkmenistan

(You do not need to register if you have dual nationality and one of those countries is not on the list.)

If you are required to register you must do so within 7 days of arriving in the UK. It may take longer than 7 days to get an appointment in September and October. Please do not worry as long as you book your appointment as early as possible.

Failure to register with the police is an offence and where a person fails to register it can leave them liable to a fine up to £5000 and/or 6 months imprisonment. Your stay in the U.K. may also be affected.

You must also inform us of any changes to your circumstances after you register, which may require another appointment. You must do this within 8 days of the change happening.

What you need to bring to your registration appointment

  • Your passport or travel document
  • Two passport sized photographs
  • Confirmation of your status in the UK (i.e. study letter or work permit/employment letter)
  • Details of your address in Merseyside
  • £34 registration fee in cash
  • This form when completed.

What you need to do if your circumstances change

Once you are registered with the police you must inform us if any of the below circumstances change:

  • Any new visa or extensions to your stay is granted by the Home Office
  • Any new landing conditions
  • Change of Address (please bring proof)
  • New passport
  • Any change to college, university, course or occupation
  • If you get married or divorced.
  • Exemption from Police registration
  • Change of Nationality
  • If you leave the U.K.

Appointments are currently between 9am to 1pm & 2pm to 4.00pm. Please do not visit us without an appointment as we will be unable to see you. Please email us on OVRO@merseyside.police.uk if you are having difficulty.

The preferred method of payment is debit card. (We do not accept Union Pay cards).
