Welcome from Chief Superintendent Peter Costsello
Hi. I’m Peter Costello, the chief superintendent in charge of Local Policing throughout Merseyside. This is where you will find out all you need to know about the local officers responsible for policing your area and how you can contact them.
My aim is to ensure that the public continue to see their local officers out and about in their communities and feel able to speak to them about the issues concerning them most. I believe that having officers with local knowledge and the skills to talk and listen to the public and to work closely with partners can really make a difference.
Since joining the police in 1991 I’ve worked in many of the areas that I am now responsible for as have the superintendents and chief inspectors who work in my team.
Most recently I was area commander in Sefton where I gained a huge insight into the issues and challenges facing policing teams and partner agencies in such a large and diverse borough. I have also been a chief inspector in Liverpool, a community inspector in St Helens town centre, a response inspector in Knowsley as well as many frontline roles earlier in my career.
My passions are local policing, working with local communities, vulnerable groups and partners to find solutions to problems and to prevent crime and disorder. I believe in doing everything possible to catch those responsible for such crimes and putting the victim first in everything we do.
As head of Local Policing in Merseyside I will ensure we adopt a longer term perspective where the police and our partners look to intervene early and address the pathways that lead people into crime or into becoming victimised due to their vulnerability.
