Appeal following attempted armed robbery in Bootle

**Published on Thursday 6 December at 9.55am**

We are appealing for information following an attempted armed robbery in Bootle last night, Wednesday 5 December.

At 10.15pm, two men were reported to have entered the One Stop Shop on Linacre Lane in possession of weapons described as a machete and hammer and demanded to be shown the safe. Staff at the location refused and the men left empty-handed in the direction of Hawthorne Road. They are believed to have got into a dark Volvo and drove towards Walton Vale.

Forensic, CCTV and witness enquiries are ongoing and detectives are asking anyone with information to come forward.

Detective Inspector Tony O'Brien said: "Although no injuries were caused and this robbery failed, all attacks on business premises are taken extremely seriously. Threats and possession of weapons can cause distress and significant psychological impact to those who are targeted, and to any witnesses.

"We are keen to speak to anyone who was inside the shop, including customers, and anyone nearby who saw these men acting suspiciously in the area or running off, to come forward. We are determined to identify those men and bring them to justice, and will be offering reassurance to local businesses today."

Anyone with information is asked to contact @MerPolCC, call 101 with reference 18400056881 or @CrimestoppersUK anonymously on 0800 555 111.
